Auckland, May 1. A private letter received from London statoß that the s.<_. Triumph has been sold there for £18,000. The s.s. Wairarapa, which left for Sydney, took away 187 passengers from Auckland, including 119 steerage ; 25 passengers from tho South were also on board. It ia stated that an English syndicate haa sent ont to an Auokland firm of solicitors a sum of £5000 to purchase the ground and plant of the Conquering Hero Mine at Coromandel. The return of infectious diseases reported to the Sanitary Inspector for the month juit closed shows a considerable falling of as compared with the previous months. Ponaouby distriot heads the list. The total number of cases are—Typhoid 8, Bcarlet fever 5, dlptheria 2. Wellington, May I, A woman, who has shown a suicidal tendency, escaped from the Hospital last Saturday, and has not sines been heard of. The expected departure list of the laat nominated Government passengers, to le*ve England by tho Tongarlro on the 7th April, was reoelved by the Immigration Depot from the Agent-General, m London, by the last mail. The numbers aro :— For Auckland, 3L ; Hawke's Bay, 11 ; Taranakl, 8 ; Wellington, 33 ; Nelson, 9 ; Marlboroagh, 1 ; Canterbury, 22 ; Westland, 16 ; Otago, 39 : Southland, 3 ; total, 173, Oamaru, May 1. Two men, named Michael Morgan and Jamea Dove, were to-day oommltttid for trial for assaulting and robbing a man named Norton. Norton says one man held him whilo the other put his hand m his pocket and took out £2 m notes. DpNE6l>, May 1. The Directors of the National Insurance Compsny have declared an interim dividend of 10 per cent, per annum for tha half year ended 31at Maroh.
