WESTERN AUSTRALIA.
Perth, Aprli 23. The Legislative Council was prorogued on Friday. The Governor absolutely refused to sanction the construction of a line of railway from Bunbury to the Darling Range, although the Legislative Council unanimously agreed to the proposed line. The Governor's message giving his reasons for refusing to sanction the construction of the line refers to the gloomy state of affairs m the colony, and states that the Governor regards the present time as inopportune for carrying out such work m view of the financial position of £ the colony. A public meeting was held here to-day to discuss the attitude assumed by Sir Napier Broome, as it is thought the Governor is doing his utmost to thwart the wishes of the colonists out of spite for their action against him m reference to his interdiction of Chief Justice Qnslow. The Government have accepted the proposal of the contractor for the Beverley Railway tp connect Western Australia with India by cable.
