THE ALFORD FOREST "TIN."
• ♦ UNFAVORABLE REPORT. Mr Gordon, Inspector of Mines, who, In company with Mr Baxter, the County Engineer, has been inspecting the whole of the ioppoaed mineral Country at Alford Foieat, returned thla morning. His report will, it la understood, be of a very unfavorable nature, the conclusion he haa come to being that there are no proar/eota Indicating any metalliferous deposits of workable value. It will be remembered that what waa supposed to be a lode of tin was found at Taylor's stream aome time ago, and latterly two miners have been at work there. Mr Gordon inspected the atoff that ia being got out by the miners, and hia opinion is that it is of no value. Mr Gordon Bttya. however, that though there are no mineral deposits of talue on this side of tho Mount Somers range, yet m the back country past the bead of tbe Stour river tin and copper may be found. Mr Gordon vlalted the Alford district on the representation that a vein of tin had bean dipcovered, and it waa on the possibility of working this profitably that he was apked to report.
