A. deputation of abou 2CO working men waited on the Prenusr this morning and exprrsyed the hopn that the Government would provide work for them. They said the condition of affairs hero waß very bad, many families being on the bordern of starvation, Thry wore willing to take woik m town cr country. I The Premier B&id ho would 10->k into tho matter and Beo what coud bo done, but the principle laid down by the Government was that all lcoal obanties should be thrown on the local bodies, unless the cake waa so desperate that the local bodies could not copo with it. If that wsra the c*se m Duneein the Government would undoubtedly havo to do something.
