On Wednesday, the 14th inst, we hail the pleasure of oonduotlng one of the moat sacoessfal olearing sales held m this district foryears. Through long-ooutinued ill health Mr A. F. MoLeod, of Tinwal*, waa furcad to give np the aotlve management of his farm, henoe the sale. Par— ehasera flocked from all parts, resultlug m values being obtained that reminded one of the good old times about 1877 and 1878. We only hope the pnrohaaera are aa well pleaaed as the seller, who informed ua that he had netted fully 30 pet oent. more thau ha expected. On Friday, the 12th Inst, we held a clearing sale of land, aheep, horses, im< plements, and sundries for H. W. Parsons, Esq ,of Seafield. In onr long and varied experience we do not remember having seen bo many paople attending a clearing sale before, clearly Indicating the high esteem In which Me and Mrs Parsons are htld by their immediate neighbours and acqnaintanoes m Canterbury. After dae attention had been paid to the good thingj prodded for the inner man, Mr Thomas mounted a barrel and, m a few well ohosen words, started the sale, the interest m which never flagged until the last item on the long Hat was disposed of. A large quantity of sundries, harness, and furniture realised equally good values. The sale throughout was marked by great activity m the biddings, every one of the large audience evidently wanting something by which be oould remember his late neighbour. The land, 1660 acres; 'is all m good heart, and Wnjr were thd complimentary remarks' made 'on Friday upon the energy and industry tint oould reclaim so much land from a howlIng wilderness, and make it a property tbat would be no disgrace m any part of the world. Notwithstanding . all the eloquence made use of by the auQtloqe.ee only £3 4? per acre waa bid for it, at which prloe it was sold to Mr O. R. Hugonin, and we with many others feel sure that he will never regret his purchase.
