LIVE STOCK MARKET.

Messrs H. Matson and 00., Ashbarton, report upon tha live stock market for the fortnight ending Monday, 16th April, as follows, viz. : — On Tusßday, 3rd instait, one of the largest entries of stock came forward for disposal that has been feen m the distriot during the last three years, folly 22,000 sheep being penned, about 20,000 changing hands at values which must be considered highly satisfactory to vendora. Our en«ry was a very heavy one, and we succeeded m disposing of every sheep entraeted to ue for sale at prices as follows, viz. :— 300 2-tooth mixed crosabreds, very prime, 8s 4d ; 120 do, 7s 9J ; 350 2-tooth wethers, 6s 9d ; 242 Ist cross ewes, 4 tooth, 6s 4d ; 156 fat ewes, 5a 9d ; 167 crossbred lan>bs, 4s ; 167 cross, bred lambs, 5s 3d ; 430 merino ewes, 3a lOd ; 108 crossbred lambs, 4s 8d ; 239 old crossbred ewed, 4a 2d ; 131 fat old ewes, 3s 9d ; 58 fat crossbreds, 6s 8J ; 70 crossbred lambs, 6s 4d , 50 crossbred lamba, 3a lid ; 242 crossbred ewes, 63 4d j 261 crossbred lambs, 5s Id ; 120 crossbred ewes, 6s 2d ; 250 merino ewes and wethers, mixed, 4s Id ; 254 6 tooth croa*bred ewes, 4s lid ; and about 1500 boilers from 3a to 4i 4d for crossbred e, and Is 6d to 2d 9d for meriuos. Taken all round the eale was remarkably bri k. In cattle and pigs the entry was small, ond nothing resulted worth quotiug. On Monday, the 9th mat,, at Ohertsey, we held our usual monthly sale of live stock, when we were favored with a large entry aod an appreciative audienoe, resulting m an almost total clearance at prioeß aB under, viz. :— 66 fat crcßsbred ewes, 6a 3d ; 157 cn.B3bred lambs, 5s 6d j 130 fat sheep, 5a 3d j 451 o.ossqred ewea, 5s 7i ; 138 Down ewes, 4s 3d ; 436 cro.-sbred lambs. 4^ lOd ; 230 meiino ewes, 2s ; 180 do, 2s 3d ; 18 4 fat orossbreds, 5a Id, etc. ; clearly demonstrating that if the farmerd of the district send m stock for sale, and let buyers know that sock will be there, buyers will roll up m force.

I n Tuesday, the 10th insi., at the Tiuwuld yards, another large entry of she;p and cattle came forward, fully 15,000 sheep being penned for the day's requirements Our entry was again a large one, and with one exception all were sold at values shewing a slight reduction upon the market of the week previous. Besides those entered with us we succeeded m selling 2650 merino ewes from Higl field and Parnassus at 3s 4d each. Our principal sales were as follows, viz. : 87 old ewes, 4i lOd j 57 crossbred lambs. 6a Id ; 75 crossbred lambß, 2s lOd ; 52 crossbred ewep, 4* 4d ; 230 crossbred ewes, 4s 7d ; 71 crossbred ewea, 43 lid ; 100 crossbred ewes, 6s 3d ; 152 do, 4s 5d ; 134 do, 5s 6d ; 167 crossbred lambs. 5a 6 i ; 150 cull lambs, 2s 6d ; 205 crossbred 2-tooths, mixed, 7s 9d; 284 cull 2-tootha, mixed, 5a 4d ; 241 cul 2 and 4tooth ewesj 3s 10J ; 409 merino ewes, 2a 31; 274 do, 2s 3d; and 1450 Highfield merino ewes, to various clients, 3a 4d ; 1140 Parnassus ewes, to various clients, 3s 4d ; and odd lots oE boilers (about 1000) at from Is lOd to *2s 3d ehoh. In cattle there was rather a larger entry than usual. Fatoows, £3 12s 6i, £3 17s 6d. £4, £4 5s to £4 15s ; springers, £2 10a to £3 17s 6d ; 12 head 18 months cattle, £2 Bs, In pigs there was only one entry, a bow m pig, which we sold at £2 5s We also oleared a lot of rams at from 5s to 21a each ; also for Longbeach sold several at £2 2a each, and hired out others for the season at £1 Is eaoh.
