Sir Graham Berry, discussing the recent despatch of Lord Knutsford, considers it unfortunate diplomacy that he bracketed the New Hebrides and the Recidiviste questions, whereas the colony had solid reasons for defending each question separately. He thinks thaf unless the matter is promptly settled it will lead to serious difficulty m the future. He rejoiced at the action of the Marquis of Salisbury, who was continually bringing the question under the notice of the French" Government.
