Auckland, April 12. The quarterly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was held to-day. It was decided to make a representation to tha Government to give effect to cuoh legislation a3 would remove the present anomalies existing in the Bankruptcy laws. Some diecuaalon ensued aa to the advisability of sending delegates from thb Chamber to inspect the proposed routes for the main trunk railway as suggested by Me MUohelaon, but the matter was daforred. A atrike has occurred between 'ho tailorc and their employees. The latter claim 10.1 per hour aa the rate of pay, but the masters only offer Bd, owing to the bad times. Proceedings are being talren by the Law Society to hava the name of Wm Rigby, Solicitor, formerly practising in Auoklaud, struck off the roll, and at the Supreme Court yesterday Mr Batton, on behalf of i bat Society, asked his Honor Mr Justice Gillies for direction as to service or a notice, as Rigby had left the colony. His olothes were placed on the edge of the water. It la a supposed case of suicide. Thia afternoon the Colonial Seoretary signed a warrant for the removal of the prisoner Dunkin, sentenced this morniog to eeven yearß* p&nal servitude for arson, from Wellington gaol to Lyttelton gaol. It was feared that if he were allowed to remain in Wellington gaol the feeling against him by his fellow prisoners, on account of his having tnrned ' approver, would be bo strong that his life would be endangered. Dtjnedin, April 12. At the Harbor Board meeting to-day, on the motion of Mr Mnckerras, it was agreed that the question of ways and means be oonaidered at a speoial meeting on Thursday next, when the mover said he would be prepared to submit a aoheme • of reductions that could be oarrled out i without oauaing hardahip. It was remarked that the position of the Board i required the gravest consideration of i every member.
