In the Legislative Assembly, the Premier justified the appointment of the suspended municipal officers to tbe Sewage Board, as he was m possession of certain information which warranted the action taken. March 28. The "Evening News" states that ihe enquiry made by tho municipal authorities into the alleged frauds shows that there has been a triple system of plundering carried on for upwards of twenty years, large numbers of the weights, prices, and articles supplied by tho contractors being altered. The amount of the fraud is likely to swell to £100,000. Legal advice is being taken as to tbe prosecution of several of the officers, and it is mentioned that the prosecution may extend to circles little suspected.
