Auokland, March 22. lion J. Williamson, M.LC, died this afternoon at 3.16 at h _ residence, th°. Pa'i Onohunga, He suffered from valvular disease of tho heart, whioh caused his death. Eo was a native of Belfast, Ireland, born m 1814, came to tbe colony m 1840, and entered into business with the late Mr Orurumer. During the Waikato war, Mr Williamson, m conjunction with late Mr W. Buokland and Mr J. S. t Macfarlano, entered into extensive oomm.Bsariat contracts, whioh turned out a success. Abont ten yerrs ago ho bought tho Pahi Estate from Mr T. .Russell, and him since resided there. He wbb one of the original founders of the Bank of New Zealand and tho New Zealand Insurance Company. He also hud taken great interest m tho Loan and Mercantile Agency, m which he was a li»rge shareholder. Of the two former institutions ho had beon a leading Direotor for many years, ond had filled the office of Chairman of Directors m the Bank. He eat ia the General Assembly for Oity West from 1862 to 1860, and m 1870 took his seat m the Legislative Council.
