ALLEGED MURDER AT TUAPEKA

Dunbdin, March 20. James Mcßory waß brought up at Lawrence to day charged with the murder of Alexander Oonnell at Tuapeka Mouth on 18th inst , and on the application of the police waa remanded until Monday next. Meantime the inquest will be opened tomorrow. From what can be learned, It appears that the man had been drinking. Afterwards Moßory went outside, and Connel with some others came up. and deCBased attacked him and knocked him down and knelt on him. Mcßory drew hia knife and stabbed Oonnell m the groin. What took pluce afterwards is not known, but the wounded man appears to have received no attention whatever m tha way of attempting to dress the wound, and he lay all night with his clothes all saturated with blood, tie was brought to Lawrence Hospital m a spring cart by Edmonds, the landlord of the hotel. It iB eaid that Dr Withers gave Edmonds a message for another doctor, and also one to the police, to come and take the man's depositions, but for unexplained reason neither was delivered. Mcßory is a middle aged man. His parents are Baid to reside m Otahuhu district, Auckland. He has been engaged for some time as a teamster on Mr James Smith's Greenfield estate.
