ANYTHING TO BET UPON.

If the story be true, some Klmberley * men lack brains rather than money. The '' Cape Argus " is responsible for the tale &b it is told, the truth of which is vouched for by a Cape Town gentleman, who was on a visit to Kimberley during the Christ, mas and New Year holidays : — A number of business men had assembled on the market, bat there was nothing doing, and the men were hanging about trying to kill time as best they could, when suddenly a mouse appeared on the scene and ran into a corner, and there it stopped, being afraid to move. Immediately bets were made as to which way the mouae would go when it left the corner. At first, the bets were only a fear shillings, but the mouae remaining m the corner excited the men, and quickly the beta amounted to pounds, uatll the sum of £150 waa reached m the gross. The mouse then came to the oon* elusion that they had gone quite high enough, and soampered off m a direotion that made mnny of the bettora wish it had gone the other way.
