NINE MONTHS ON A DESERT ISLAND
A romantic story of adventures upon a deßert island is related by two sarvlvora of the schooner General Siege!, who have arrived at Honolulu (says an English paper). The men Btate that tho General Slegol left Honolulu on September 1, 1886, for French Frigate Shoals, on a shark fishing expedition. Her crew was composed of C&ptaln Aberdlne, Adolph Jorgen, the mate, the two men already mentioned, Peter Larkin, Peter Brown, Martin Neileon, and Oharlei|Olemens. On Sept. 23 they arrived off Medway Island. On the night of Sept. 26 the vessel was riding at anohor off thlsUland, the whole of the crew being camped on shore. Towards midnight a gale of wind arose. The vessel drifted ashore and became a wreak. The crew thuu found themselve caßt on a desolate island m mid-ocean, their only means of sustenance b&lng seabirds end their eggs, and fish. About ten days afterwards a painful accident happened to Peter Larkin. While engaged m killing fiah with giant powder one of his hands were blown off. He died from his Injuries In a few days. After this a feud appears to have arisen between the mate Jorgen and the others. William Tlmpe, one of the earvlvors, cays that when he was alone m the hut Jorgen crept behind him and tried to etrargle him with a rope. The lad called for help, when tho mate deß^ted from the attempt. While the captain and Brown were after egga Jorgen murdeied them, When the others heard thla they taxed Jorgen with it, but he said the two had committed suicldo. Olaen and Tlmpe then resolved to leave the island. They accordingly destroyed tho ship's boat and than sailed away on Juno 28 m a foow and left the mate aJone. They beaded for Marshal Island, which they reached after a voyage lasting two montha and a ha'f.
