Who shall it be 1 The Transcontinental Aerial Navigation Company, of Chicago, 111,, are building an air ship called the " Arctic Eiplorer," with a carrying oapaclty of 200 passengers, together with kuoli instruments and apparatus as they may wiah to carry ; also provision and machinery for operating the ship. The following sciences will havo one or mere representatives aboard : — Astronomy, geodtßy, hydrostaticß, bygromelry, photography, eto. The air ship will be composed of a cylinder built of thiu plates of stee 1 , thorou?hly braced inside m order to withstand atmospheric pressure. The inventor departs from old mothod and will use for ascenßlOD&l forco a partial vacaum instead of gas. To thla cylinder will be rigidly attached the car for passengers, etc. The motive power will be electricity; The proposed route Is as follows :—Startiugfrom New York City, tbenco to Philadelphia, Washington, Toledo, Chicago, Omaha, San Francisco: Feddo. Japun ; Canton or Pekin, China, Constantinople, Turkey ; Rome, Italy; Paris, France ; BerllD, Germany ; iJopc-nhageD, D313---mar k; Stockholm, Sweden ; and St. Petersburg, Russia ; from thence directly via Greenland to the Arctic regions.
