(Per Press Association.) SuicideAuckland, March 14 William Luker, residing at Earangahape road, committed suicide yesterday % taking a quantity of rat poißon. The deceased stated he bought six jam tarts. He placed the poison on them and ate them as he was tired of life. He died 12 hours after taking the poison . Luker, who has a wife and family m England, was an inmate of the Whau asylum, and wag only liberated m November last. Pire. New Plymouth, March 14. The Omata hotel, three miles Bouth of New Plymouth was burned down at 11 o'clock last night. A gale was blowing at the time, and the licensee and his family had barely time to escape before the building was enveloped m flames. The origin is unknown, but the fire is supposed to have commenced near the kitchen range. The property was owned by Mr Newsliam, and leaeed to Mr Pawl, Brewer, New Plymouth, and insured m his name m the Phoenix for £200. lhere is no insurance on the Btook or furniture. I Court of Appeal.
