Mary Ann Saunders v Ma tha Radford, charge of brutally beating a cow at Pnrrhill. — Mr Oiyton appeared for plaintiff and Mr Cuthbertson for defendant.— Defendant pleaded not gu lty — Mary Faundera. the plaintiff, rememb red on January 27'h te ding her cow at ht own gate when Mra Radford oaroe and b >at it severely with a etick thin broom stick) Bhe (defendant) a!ao used very bad language towards her, and threatened to beat her teeth down her neck. - Orosaexamined : The cow suffer d mvi hinjury ; had she thought herself strong enough she (witness) would have gone for her aud not allowed it. She did uaa bad language herself sometimes. The cow wai not m the habit of wandering m o'her people's gardens. There was a cut about one and a half inches long. The cow milked blood for some days through the illtreatment. — Edward Saunders, husband of the plaintiff, gave evidenoe He had some tme ago been bound over to keep the peace towards the Radfords He estimated the damage done to the cow at £1. — Patrick OlKeefo gave evidenoe for plaintiff. — For tho defeece, Mr Cufchbertson simply denied the charge ; the trouble arose- through a neighbor's quarrel.— Mrs Radford, defendant, said the cow was constantly wandering about the t >wnship and had been many times iv her gar Jen She had not struck the cow, but only shaken her apron at it. Plaintiff U6ed most disgusting language to her, and also threatened to bum her out— W Rudford also gave evidence. — Before 'giving their decision th Banch heard the following caabs:— : Martha Radford was charged "with uvuitlilvtii^-it-e<yw-on— g»bruary-6th —William Radford was alao charged with a similar offenoa on February 3rd. Tho cases were taken together. — Eliza Sounders, 12yeai;s of age, gaveevidence, and a nqmber of others, — The Bench were of opinion that the cas e a ehoald never have come into Court. Casoa dismissed, each party to pay their own costs. CIVIL OABE N.Z loan and Meroaotile Agency Co. v J. Santy, claim £3 9s 61; judgment summons —Mr Clayton for ths Company, — Ordered to pay m one month or seven dayB 1 imprisonment.
