A. NEW MAIL SERVICE:

The " Herald" to-day states that the Canadian Government are about to enter into negotiations with several colonial Governments for the establishment of a fast fortnightly mail service from Vancouver's Island to Brisbane and Sydney, the latter port being the terminus of the line* The steamers to be employed m the service are to attain a speed of eighteen knots and will run the distance m nineteen days, calling at 'Frisco and Suva. At the latter place it is proposed that a sixteen knot steamer shall connect with New Zealand. All the vessels are to be fitted with Chambers for the reception of fruit and other perishable* products.
