A number of communications have passed between the Government and the Agent-General with reference to the (bating of the new loan, and no loan is to be plaoed upon the London market juat at present, the Government having m*de arrangements which will obviate the neoesaity of borrowing at Home for some little time to ccrae.

The Ouatoraa returns In the oolony for the last month, the eleventh of the financial year, are now completed. The Oastomn duties oolleoted at the foui principal porta laat month were as followa; — Wellington, £15 775 4s Id ; Auckland, £29,139 5a 3d ; Lytteltoo and Ohrletohuroh, £18 080 11b 2d ; Danedin, £25,275 2a 7d. In the totals of the month's duties £6093 3s lid was made up by amaller ports. The estimated monthly average of the custom* duties for the year was £104,166 13 i 41, that for laat month would anaoaut to £^35,83?, whereas the amount aotually collected has been £157,784, or £11,950 above estimate.

The beer duty collected amounted to £4634 2b oi, the four prlnoloal oltiea contributing &b follows : — Wellington, £409 17a 4d ; Auckland, £939 3a aid ; jDnrletchurch, £967 13s lid ; Daaedln, £1075 7« Bd. For the eleven montbi the total amoant of beer duty ejected has been. £47.342, or £2158 below the average eatitutted lot that' period, which WM£i9»sl)o.
