Auckland, February 29 The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company has received advices that at a meeting of shareholders m London, it was resoived to convene an extraordinary general meeting of the sha<eholders on the 13th April for the purpose of passing a special resolution increasing the capital of the Company by the addition of ±500,000 m 20.000 shares of £25 eacb, which shares shall be fully paid up, but on which shares dividend ■will be paid as if 503 only bad been paid up and interest m lieu of dividend will be allowed at the rate of five per cent per annum on the remainding £22 10a paid for the said shares.

An official inquiry as to the cause cf the Bellinger striking on the Wa'ongooga Beef was commenced to-day at Waitara, The examination of the Master and Engineer touk from 10.30 to 4 p.m., when It was adjourned uatll to-morrow. Information received bo far shows that the vessel struck on the reef between 4 and 5 o'clock on Tuesday morning with such force as to drive a hole In the bottom •boat midships.
