Adelaide, February 20, ( The Government resident at Port Darwin telegraphs that 500 Chinese are going to the ruby mines, He urges the Government to legislate at once to put a stop to this inland immigration} and says that the Chinese are under the impression that Western Australia is going to be closed to them. They are fbcking m shcals to Port Darwin, and syndicates at Hong Kong and Canton are forcing them through, guaranteeing the steamship companies who convey them repayment , of the quarantine expenses they may incur, and threatening, if they refuse to carry Chinese, to lay on steamers themselves. The question has now reached a serious phase, and the Resident begs the Government to take the responsibility of stopping further immigration immediately. The Premier intends to bring the matter before the Cabinet this week*
