SOUTH RAKAIA SCHOOL.
The annual treat ia conneotion with the above was held on the school gronnds on Friday. A number of parents and others were present. , The Rev W. Stewart, a member of the Committee, In addreaatng the staff, referred to the last Inspector's report, which was unsatisfactory, and hoped more earnest attention would be given to tho work m future. lie had been connected with Aohool work and the duties of School Committees for many youm, and spoke from experience. It afforded him no plonoore to refer to the unsatisfactory report, and he regretted having to do so, but he and the Com mitt <c wished to impress on the fttafftho Imperative necessity for using every effort to advance the children. It would be a rncomraondation to the next Oommltteo to continue tbe giving of prizes for attendance, and also for merit, and ho trusted this would bo an inducement to the ohildren to atieud regularly, be attentive and diligent m their etuiles, and thus aaalst both the •taff and themselves, Mr Broad bent and Mr Dlxon (the Master) also addressed the children m a few well chosen words. Tho reverend gentleman addressed each olaas of ohildren separately \n a very earnest manner, impressing upon thorn the necessity, not only of paying proper attention to their duties when m auhool, but of regular and punctual attendance ; also to be careful aa to their conduct at h ma and elsewhere at other times. ' The children were then put through their drill ng and gymnastics, and afterwards were supplied with substantial refreshments. After indulging m a number of games, as ramble fnr lollies, eto., they wero ag^ln assembled In tbe school, and the Key Stewart was o Ailed on by Mr Pyke, the Chairman, to present prlzia for the best attendances during the past year. Each recipient was addressed m a few appropriate words. Przss were given In each Standard, the numbers rarying according to the size of the olase. Standard V, — W. Larraraan Ist, J. Shannon 2nd. Standard IV— R, A. Shannon let, Jeremiah Ooffey 2nd, Agru.4 Drummond 3rd. Standard 111, — Six prfzas m following order : W. Sfcurgia, J. H*rney, Sarah McDtwoll, A. Drummond, -M. O'Koefe, and P. Brown. Standard JI — t.. Clark, H. Breach, VV. Barney, D. C'Keefe, ?. Dramraond, and Jane McLaren.'' ' ' Standard I —P. Ooflhy, G. Sturgess, 4nnlo Thompson, Harriott Clark) Jane Withell, P.
