RAID ON A SCOTCH DEER FOREST
About 2000 co'tan marched at daybreak on November 22 ad, beaded by pipers from the rations ctoftee-ahlps of Loohs parish, Island of Lewis, for Park and Aline daer force's. Namban of them were armed trlth riflas, »nd tents, stores; and other baggage were taken with them. The Highlander! intand to pitch their camp on the mountains for several weeks, with the object of exterminating the deer. They allege that three-fourths of the pariah is watted under deer while 6000 crofters are starving, portions of the land now under deer having been formerly cultivated by the oroftera, At Balallan the man, having mustered at Seaforth Head, on the Park shooting-ground, pro* oeeded to beat the western portion of the foreat driving and killing deer. The men camped at night on the s :>mh-weat aide of the foreat. The obj?ot ijs declared to be the decimation of the Park shootings, ".a they expect to aeonre holdings on tne ground should the shootings baoome valueless. Several of the men deolara hat sheer necessity actuates them, M they have little or no food.
