[Ptb Press Association.]

(Received J*nu»ry 19, 0.60 a.m.) THE "TIMES" ON FEDERATION Lowdon, January 19. The "Times," commenting on the first Centenary of Australia, refers to the wonderful progress of the colonies, and states it is difficult to picture what may be the grandeur of the second Centenary. It considers that complete Federation has been delayed owing to the sense of prosperity and security experienced by those colonies now holding aloof from Federation. Instead of squabbling about names for the colonies, the " Times " expresses the opinion that it would be better if they became united, when their collective future applied to the development of the mighty resources of Australia would place them m the position to discharge the function, which European countries on a similar scale have always performed.
