THE MAEREWHENUA GOLDFIELD.
Mr Matthew Ourrie, an old dlggeft of experience m California, Viotorla and New Zealand has beea out prospecting at Maerewhenua and sends the following information to tho "Oamaru Mail" ;— "I started upon the reserve on the west aide of the Maerewhenua river. I found a good many good prospects, and there are hundreds more to be found uson the same reserve. Without a doubt it would pay the Government to bring' in a waterrace of eight or ten heads of water. It would pay any ooveroment m the world. Tbere are 1800 acres In one blook. There (a room for 100 msn for a lifetime. After £ was satisfied with the west side of the Maerewhenua 1 went to the mtjnlolpal reserve and found payable ground' there. There are thtee reserves adjoining the Municipal reserves, thousands of aores of whioh are auriferous. They ought «° ha tested, and if payable, would employ hundreds of men fop a generation,!' ' "
