SOUTH RAKAIA ROAD BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting was held on Thursday. Present : Messrs O'>ste (chairman), Tucker, Lyttelton, Mulligan and Striogfellow The Clerk reported favorab'-y on tho various contracts m progress. Home 30,000 mall birds' eggs have been brought m by the boys. Mr W .anderson waited on the Board, stating that he bad come from the Board s BolioitorH and would now accept £35 m full settlement of his claim for land and damage done. There was no letter from the solicitors to this effect. After full consideration the Board decided that Mr Anderson be informed that the matter was still m the bands of the solicitors, and the offer could not be accepted, BOUNDARY ROAD. Culverts on Cherteey Boundary Road not to be taken out till the matter of control and the amount for maintenance to be paid by each Board were finally settled by the Council. Mr Mulligan moved and Mr Lyttelton seconded, that J. Moudie be paid for repairing six water race fords more than pp c fied m hia coutract at the same prioa. Carried. Mr .voAnulty wrote re extra work on I) iff contract for reducing sandhills and mitking cuttings. Mr Allan had given insrr"ct : ons for the extra work as it wua necessary. It was resolved that £15 be passed for payment for the work done. Mr Shannon asked permission to leave his contract and go harvesting. The Clerk to inform Mr Shannon that the Board would hold him responsible m terms of his contract to keep the roads m repair at all times. Mecsre Baxter Bros, wrote complaining that Mr Morrow had fenced one of the roads acrouß to their inconvenience. The Clerk was instructed to request Mr Morrow to remove the obs : ruction. The Poundkeeper repotted that he had lost an impounded horse from the Found through a bull he had knocking the gate down He hud made every search for >he horee without good result. The Government wrote stating that after March, 1888, no rates would be paid on Native or Oro *m Lamia. Mr Babbage wrote asking permission to cut grass on certain roads on the village settlement for his own use. — Application granted. It was reaolved tbat any other applicants should be allowed the same privilege. Mr G. Riobards applied for permission to water and feed »da horses on gravel reserve 1114, as there was no water race within two miles —Application granted Mr Tucker moved that m future cheques be m..de pay abb to bearer instead of oider. Seconded by Mr Mulligan and carried. NEW RATE. Mr Tucker moved bin notice of motion tbat a rate of £d m the £ be struck. Mr Stringfellow thought this was not the time to B<riko a heavy rate. Mr Lyttelton also spoke against it. Tbe motion was not seconded. As an amendment, Mr Lyttelton moved th \t a rate of one farthing m the £be struck. .Seconded by Mr Mulligan and carried. It waa decided that the Chairman and [ Mr Tucker bo authorised to sign the rate book. | ACCOUNTS. Accounts amouotiug to £185 10s 2d wore paneed for payment and the Board adjourned. CKMETBRY BOABD. The member* then met an a Cemetery Board, and after traneaoting routine business adjourned.
