The death is announced of Sir Robert Dalrymple Ross, Speaker of the South Australian Assembly.
(Received December 28, 12.50 p.m.) NEW GUINEA EXPLORATION. Sydney, Deoember 28. Bevan, leader of the expedition formed at Sydney for exploring New Guinea has returned to Thursday Island. He reports the result ot their labors as a, brilliant geographical success. The expedition explored the river systems running into the Gulf of Papua over an area of iooo miles of new territory, but were compelled to return owing to half the men of the party being down with fever.
