Bates, a member of the Yernon Cricket team, met with a severe accident yesterday whilst playing m the match on the Melbourne ground. Bates while m the act ot bowling was struck oyer the eye by a ball hit by Newton, when practising on the next net. The doctors are hopeful the sight is not permanently injured.
