SOUTH RAKAIA SCHOOL COMMITTEE
• The usual monthly meeting* was held In the Library on Wednesday evening. Present — Meßsrs Pyke (Chairman;, Turner, Stewart, Johnston, Broadbent and Oxley. An apology was reoeived from Mr Windsor for absence. The mister repotted the av9rage attendance for the month, 1414; past week, 151*7 ; -amber on roll, 209. The attention of the Committee was oiiled to the fact of parents sending children under 13 yeara old to service. Tbe matter wae left for the Chairman to see to. Mesira Turner and Broadbent were appointed to attend to works required, A circular from the Board re notices to teachers and curtailments generally wa3 reoeived. The Commissioner of Crown Lands wrote Intimating that the additional ground for sohool purposos was g*zitted. It was resolved to close the sohool from December 15th to January 15th next. INSPECTOR'S REPORT. The Inspector's report, as follows, was received.

IV , 12yrs 6rnths I master ' and E S, 111. llyrs Bmths f I*rraman aeoon ' * J year pupil teacher S.ll.,loyrs3mths }W £ J° nng ' "^ ' 8, 1., Byra llmlhs } Rbt ' Bruce second ' > year pupil teacher Pieparatory classes l ßose Bruc ?' th * rd c J j year pupil teacher The general remarks were as follows :— The opinion formed of the general management of the school Is a favorable one. — Discipline is very good, class movent? are executed In good order, and the whole members of the staff display a 00-op3ration. — Ab regards the attainments of the children the examination yields only a very moderate result, but it is clear from the nature of the anawering »h>t only a few weeks longer would have been neoessary to pasi a fair proportion, In Standards 111 and V arithmetic Ib a very weak point, and m Standard IV much be'ter reading muet be produced.— Grammar and composition are very fairly treated. All In Standard V, with the exception of one pupil, ware, I am given to understand, passed up after last ' examination. They are not yet quite fit and will find ample scope for useful and progressive work for another year m the sane Standard, liberally Interpreted. The preparatory olasaea are well managed and have been very fairly taught The oounting of the lowrr division Is pleasing j In the higher it might be Improved. The pupil' teacher In charge appears very well adapted for this kind of work. The examination has taken plaoe seven weeks earlier this year, the date of the previous year being Deoember 23 and 24th. W. J. Anderson, Inspector. Consideration of the report was adjourned till next meeting. Accounts were passed for payment, aud the meeting adjourned.
