The electricians have at last glron ua what will prove an invention of infinitely more utility than tbe telephone — a writing telegraph -(observes the "London Spectator" of 24th September. Tbe telephone is absolutely useless for confidential communications, fpr it is Impossible to be sure who is at the other end of tho wire, and the messages can be overheard. The writing telegraph, which Is said Already to be superseding tbe telephone m America, secures complete secreoy, and is only liable like all written communications, to forgery, since the handwriting of the sender is produced m exact fac simile.
