At the Police Cjurt to-day J. F. Drew, master of the schooner Awaru», and Deals Fox, mate of the vessel, were onvictel of killing seals at Auckland lalea dv icg the close season, and were fined — Drew, £40 for the offence, and £10 for the aeala killed ; and Fox £5 for the offence, and £5 for seals killed. A farther charge of 'having 176 sealskins m their possession at the Auokland Isles was adjourned, counsel for the defendant Drew, having raised the point that the Orderin-Oouncll issued prohibiting taking of seals up to June, 1888 is ultra vires. There was practically no defence, exoept that Drew said he was only navigator of the vessel, and had no control over the sealing party, bat this the Court refused to entertain, seeing that he bad the vessel six weeks at the islands after picklog up the Deny Oastle's aacvlvora.
