At the Yarda on Wednesday there was a good attendance, and business Has fairly brisk; though the splendid grass weather, made a marked effect on the price of beef.
s Oattle.-Tho fat cattle wero about up i to the usual standard m quality and numbers, but buyers were evidently a little shy, and a drop of quite 10s per ' head In this timo was recorded. A good 1 line of 18 Longbeaoh cattle (16 steers, 2 . heifers,), sold by the New Zealand Loan . and Mercantile Agency Oompany, brought 3 from £5 I7« 63 to £9 10s—the latter, a big animal; and heifers, £5 9. 6d and £5 12s 6d. Beef may be quoted at from 18. ■ to 19. per 1001 b. There was not a large i entry of dairy stock, but they sold fairly t well, up to £6 being reaohed for choice j lots. Thero was a better demand for . stores, and the fairly numerous lot yarded sold well, up to £5 53 being reaohed for 1 forward conditioned lots, Calves sold 1 pretty brlsky at prices from 5i op to 15s per head, according to also and condition. , Sheep. —Sheep were not very numerous , but there was a fair demand for lots showing quality above the average, though ' prioes eased a little during the day. A line of very prime Down wethers were sold to Mr Kelling by Messrs Matson and i Co st from lis 6i to 12s, and a line of ' very nice class merino wethers by tbe same vendors, on acoount of Mr Greenwood at 6s 9d to ?s. There are now praetloally no shorn fat sheep offering, though several lines of fresh stores m the wool were put up. The market m lambs was dull, with a moderate entry of varied classes, whloh were quitted at prfoes somewhat tn favor of buyers. The highest prloe touched was 8_ Oi hut the average was considerably lower. Shorn mutton may now be quoted at 2d per lb. There was not quite such a largo entry of store sheep on Wednesday as m the prerlous week's sales, and despite tbe abondanoe of feed the demand for this olaai of stock wan still scarcely as brick ftS might be expeoted. At the san^e time there was evidently a considerable margin betveen owners- and buyers 7 ideas of prioes. Crossbred hoggets In the wool, wer_ passed at from fjs 31 to 8. 4d Good, big-framed, fresh merino owes sold at Si Id, Merino ewes In the wool, hi 01. A line of 46Q oaossbred mixed ages ■nd sexes, woolled sheep, brought §*, and a line of 100 fair olass two and four-tooth mixed orossbreds were cleared at 5s 101. Several lots of store sheep were pas ed m, owners and buyers not coming to terms. Pecs There was again a better tone ln . the pig market- Tenng ones brought from 10., and good bacon sorts up to 35- I | esoh, and prices were on the average ]' 10 per cent better than last week's.
