SIMPLE METHOD OF ARTIFICIAL RESPIRATION
In the " British Medical Journal," Mr J. A. Francis describes a simple method of artificial respiration wbioh, he alleges, combines all the advantages of the Marshall, Hall, Sylvester, and Howard matted., wlthont any of their disadvan* tages. The plan la as follo-vs ;— The body of the patient Is laid on the baok, with clothes loosened, and the mouth and nose wiped. Two bystanders pass their right hands under the body at tha level of tbe waist and grasp each other's hands then raise the body till the tip of the fingers and toes of the subjeot alone touch the ground, count fifteen rapidly ; then lower the body i_.t to ground, oount fifteen again ; then raise the body again for the same length of timo ; and so on alternately raising and lowering. The head, arms, and legs are to be allowed to dangle down quite freely when the body Is raised. The author alleges that this method Is most successful, and It In so simple that anyore can perform It without any tench'njg. ~ _£he common praotice of raialng fainting persons to an upright position is often sufliclent to destroy the spark of lifo whioh remains. It Is more reasonable and sound to keep auoh persons In the prone position while reatoratlves and local means be adopted jto enable them If possible to regain ooneclousneßß,
