First Day,
The first day's racing of the Spring Meeting of the Ashborton Racing Club was held to-day. The weather was magnifioeat, completely falsifying the anticipations of a wet day, which the rainfall of yesterday afternoon and last night gave rlae to. Mr Pitcraaa had one publloan'a booth, and Mr Henry the other, while Mr Davlb presided over the lighter refreshment stalls. The following are tbe results up to the time of our going to praea : — Handicap Hurdle Rack, of 40 soys ; the second horse to receive 5 soys from the stake Over 8 flights of hurdles, about 3ft 6in high. 2 miles. From a rather indifferent start Sawdust got away first, with Mainbo m and Effi»y, Nero whipping m, bad over the first hurdle. Therb was no alteration m tha positioos as they passed the stand, but at the next Sawdust, Mainboom, and Effigy took close order, and Mainmoc improved his position. At the last hurdle EfHp.y went up and won easily by two lengths, Mainboom second, Sawdust taking third place en sufferance. Time— 4min Iseo. Totalisator, 236 — 88— dividend, £2 88.
