FLEMINGTON GOSPEL TEMPERANCE SOCIETY.

On Friday evening lost the Gospel Temperance Society •£ Fleraington, met is tbe achoolhouse. The weather bad been showery, bat did not much affect the attendance, every available Beat being occupied. The KevA. Blake occupied the chair, and stated that a special feature of the evening would be the presence and co-operation of members of other societies fromTinwald, Waterton, and "Willowby, These wer© represented by Misses Mebarry (2)| and Cairncrosa, Mißaes Dawkins sod Donaldson, and Mr Lowe respectively, who contributed appropriate songa that were much appreciated, and the last named a wading entitled " The Pastor's Btory," a touching temperance tale, which was very attentively listened to. Of the local society Mr Dakers contributed a aong, and Mr Harding ft res ding. "The Bottomless Jag," both bsing yery well received. Mrs Williamson sang *' He wipes the Tear," and Mr Williamson gave an amusing reading " The Twins." Mr R. Ollmour, of the Waterlon Society, likewise gave a hnmorous Scofcob atory, and Mr £. Blake sang " Tbe Little Herp,' whiob, like several other pieces, was loudly encored, but justice to other items on the programme precluded the request being acceded to An Interval of half-a-hoyr toofc: place at half-past eight, when refreshments! were brought m and handed round wltb commendable despatch by numerous tolnnteer waiters, who found willing i customers for their tempting goods. Mr Dana moved a vote of thanks to those who bad Malaied In the evening's entertainment, and Me Harding, m supporting it, tapeolally referred to those who bad provided the refreshments, and thought It had been shown that night how they oould enjoy themselves without tbe use of strong drink. A vote of thanks was tien oarried by acclamation to those jreferrcd to, and also to Mrs Harding who tad presided at the piano.
