STEAM FIRE ENGINE.
XO IKS JSBITOB. YoM OoßMpondent, "Observer," decidedly hew lome views of his own re Sttam Fire Engine, but to my limited Idea* seems rather mixed. Why he shoald doubt the word of an association Buoh as the Ohziatonurcb Fire Association, Is beyond my comprehension. He goes on to •ay he thinks a far better plea for keeping to the present rate is to to be foand m the absence of fire of any magnitude m this borough. The Assoclatlen might suggest onr guaranteeing that sacb will contlnae to be the cbbo, but unfortunately at any moment a calamity may ocour, and thousand* of poonds be •wept Into apace, while "Observer" stands looking on thanking his starß he only has a qaarter aero section. Why be should import the question of Swimming Baths is also a ptzz c to me. Perhaps he was cot a restdeut of tbts borough when the bridge was built or we might have had a public meeting to discuss the spending of a much larger sum of the ratepayers' money. I would beg to remind him there is alto a Very great '.risk of that structure bei^g destroyed by fire, and no doubt he Trill jpln me m regretting the Fire Acsootatton have no interest therein. I •m one of those who are ao very anxious About the Increased ratts and can say I am not quite so interested as " Observer" teems to think, at the s»me time I consider that every owner of a quartertore seotioD, viih any bulldjDg tnereon, •hould lend a hand to obtain a Steam I Fire Engine, and be grateful to the Association for their handsome donation and liberal discount, With many thanks for space allow me to say to "Observer" that if he should reply and will sign his Btme he will hear again from Albbbt Bobebis.
