THE WAITOTARA PETITION.
Wellington, November 21. In oompllanoe with an order of HTi Honor the Chief Justice, Mr Bell filed to-c'ay m the Supreme Court the particulars of the nature of the corrupt and Ulegal pr notices which are charged la general terms m the petition of the Hon John Bryce and Messrs D. Peat and J. R. Somerville against the return of Mr Oeo. Hutchison for Waitotara. The notithners say : (1) With reapeot to the oharges m the Bth paragraph of the petition, the "treating" therein charged h the supplying of meat, drink, entertainment and provisions gratis to voters And others m the electoral district: of Waitotara at a pabllchcuse fn the Btine district, and the supplying of meaty drink, entertainment and provisions gratis to voters and others before, atxtlpjt, and after meetings held by the respondent, or meetings held .by the respondent's committee within the eleotoral district. (2) With respect to the oharge m the 11th paragraph of the petition, the oharge Is made under Section 15 of tho Corrupt Practices . Prevention Aot, 1881, and the illegal praotlces m the 38th paragraph referred to are the Illegal practices speclfioally oharged In other paragraphs of the petition. (S) With respaoi to tht 12th paragraph of the petition the oharge is (a) that the respondent expended In securing h?s eleotlon Urge snmi of money In excess of the monies authorised by the sobndules to the Corrupt Practices Pre* ventlon Aot, 1881 ; (b) That the said monies, or part or parts thereof, were so expended for the purposes of varloui corrupt and illegal praotioes alleged m the petition.
