NAVAL DEFENCES.

Brisbane, September 18. After a lengthy stormy sitting of the Assembly the Opposition allowed the Naval Defence Bill to pass the first reading, but this was only agreed to upon the understanding that the matter should afterwards be allowed to lapse. It is rumored m official circles that the Premier contemplates resigning, the colony having pledged its honor to have the Bill passed.
