Auckland, November 15 At tho Harbor Board meeting to-day correspondence waa forwarded calling attention to the racing of tha ferry steamers Victoria and Eagle. Fraser and Sons concluded tho first leßt of half a ton of quartz from the Manitoto licensed holding at Hikutaia. The result is 320z of bullion, worth £2 8s per ounce, or a total value of £18 per ton. Tho prospects of the Waiomo goldfields aro most enoouraging More than a dozen claims have been pegged ouf, and there are now about two hundred men on the ground, forty of whom are engaged m erecting a twenty- stamper battery for the Paroquet Company. The Paroquot mine, which waß first discovered m the district, is fully manned. Lourie and PJummer's recent discovery is called " Golden Rock," and is one and a half miles nearer the lhamos than the Paroquet. The reef is four feet thick and shows free gold of good quality, and it can be treated easily by a good battery process, as -there is no complex ore. Westport, November 15.
