Crossing a Railway. Auckland, November 16. At tbe Pt lf o i Court, W. Cathbert w&s charged with crossing the railway at Newmarket with a cart on the 10th inst when a engine wa3 within a quarter of a mile of the crossing. This is a prosecution at the Instance of Government arising out of the accident la which a cart was smashed and a man and horse narrowly escaped being killed. Pending tbe action of the Miniater of Publio Works the hearing waa adjourned for a weak. EmbezzlementWellington, November 16. At the KM. Court, Thoe. Plnckney on a charge of embezzlement, was sentenced to six months hard labor. Sudden Death. Mrs Wardell, wife of the Resident Magistrate here, died suddenly at Masterton this morning, it is supposed of heart disease.
