Tuesday, November 15, The House i met at 2 30 p.m. NOTICE OF MOTION. Mr Joyoe gave notice of motion to ask Government whether, m order to maintain the education system, they would move lv the direction of imposing an annual tax of £1 per head (for three years only) upon the adult male population of the colony, also the Bum of £2 per head on bachelors over 30, £5 per head npon all bachelors and splnslers who pocgdM property worth £500 and upwards, MOTIONS. Mr Mobs moved that the report from the Publio Petitions Committee on a potiti oq from residents of Auckland, praying for tariff revision, be set down for consideration by the Home on Thursday next, He said that the repott of the Committee, referring the matter to the | Government for consideration, meant shelving the question. Mr Moss' amendment was lost after a long discussion by 47 againßt 36. Captain Russell moved for an extension of time for one week' to bring up the report of the Midland Railway Committee, QUESTIONS. Replying to questions, it was stated that Government proposed to plaoe the balance of the loan of 1886 for the Greymouth Hokltika Railway ; that up till lately two messengers had been retained by Sir Julias Yogel one of them at his own expense; and the other one would pQ given op when required)
