THE MIDLAND RAILWAY.
(from our correspondent.)
Wellington, October 21.
Mr Alan Scott, representative of the Midland Railway Company, arrived from Ch'iatohurch and, it is understood, his appearance here is m consequence of the request of the Government, that he should come to Wellington and confer with them regarding the conditions of the contract of the Midland Railway. As is well known, some complications have arisen m connection with the contract of this railway, and it is suggested that the support of the Canterbury members Is contingent on a satisfactory solution of the difficulties. It 1b further suggested that the presence of Mr Alan Soott here will enable the Government to arrive at a settlement of the question, and thus Alienate Canterbury's support from Sir J. Yogel,
