♦- — [rbuter's telegrams— copybioot] London, October 16. The Nationalist meeting which it was intended to hold at Woodford yester- , day, having been proclaimed by the Government, Mr W. O'Brien, who arrived there on Saturday evening, held a meeting m a piivate house at midnight, and afterwards m the presence of a large crowd, burned the proclamation forbidding4he meeting. Sir West Ridgeway, Under-Secretary for Ireland, and Mr Balfour. are" at present visiting Dublin. Mr Chamberlain, speaking at Port Rush, said that Home Rule would mean ruin for the masses. He also stated that Irish legislation should provide ior cultivators becoming owners of the soil, which should be specially valued for purchase. The success of his visit has irritated and disquieted the Liberals and Parnellites. Dillon and O'Brieu addressed a meeting at Woodford today, and numbers of police and military are massing m the village.
