+ [from our own correspondent^ Wellington, Ootober 17 1 Matters have been at normally dull Id the Lobbies since the Honee rose, owing to the fact that, a number of members have left for their homes, while those remaining have, apparently, made op their minds to let things go very easily daring the adjournment. In fact all that is likely to be done will be by the Opposition, as the Government apparently intend to keep their policy a dead secret even from their own supporters. Little things have been leaking out, and it i» stated that there was a big row m the Cabinet last week owing to the fact that Borne important items had found publication m the press aad fallen into the bands oE the Phil etines, and there is a rumor, which bo far I have been unable to Kubstantiate, to the effacb that a hostile move is to be made by the Opposition immediately on delivery of the Financial Statement, and that the party are rather sanguine of success. With the Liberal wing under Ballance they claim to have 42 members, and hope that a few malcontents may be won ovec during the interim. A meeting of the Auckland members was held on Saturday m reference to Government purchases of land at Point Resolution, Auckland, for defence purposes. It is said that some queer disclosures were made, and that probably a Committee of Enquiry will be ordered. The matter was left tn the hands of Sir George Grey, who will take whatever action he deems necessary.
