[kbumr's telegrams — copyright.] LoNDOir, Ootober 6. Entries for the next series of colonial wool auctions close on the 22nd November. The colonial wool auctions closed to-day. The total quantity sold during the series amounted to 240,000 bales, I and the quantity held over to 35,000 bales. The following are the closing rates for various descriptions, as compared with previous sales: — Finest greasy rather higher ; medium greasy, */£d lower ; inferior greasy, j£d to id I mer; medium to good scoured, about id lower ; faulty scoured and fleeces, 2d lower j greasy crossbreds, j£d to id lower ; fine scoured crossbreds, id to ij^d lower. Beetroot sugar is quoted at 12s. Melbourne, Ootober 6. Messrs Goldsborough and Co., Limited, held their opening wool sale ot the season yesterday, when 2 500 bales were offered. There was a crowded attendance of English, foreign, and American buyers.. The competition was animated, and the prices realised were equivalent to the London average* One thousand bales were sold. Greasy wool fetched B^d. The same firm report having sold Widgiewa Estate, consisting of 90,000 acres, including 71,000 acres of freehold and 56,000 sheep, to Mr J. S. Horsfall. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, has received the following cable message from London, dated sth October, 1887 :— Wool — The sales closed fairly well. Long staple merino, light m grease, has advanced j£d per lb since close of last sales. The following sorts have declined since the close of last sales, viz : — Medium and inferior greasy, clothing washed, superior scoured merino, and scoured crossbred, all J46, to id per lb ; combing washed, fine greasy crossbred, and greasy merino lambs, each j4d per lb ; faulty lambs and short staple merino, scoured, id to ij^d; faulty scoured, ij£d to 2d. For coarse greasy crossbred and crossbred lambs the market is easier. The sales comprised about 246,000 bales; 109,000 bales have been taken for the Continent, 1200 for America, and 36,000 held over for future disposal;

Wheat— Adelaide wheat, f.a.q., is worth off coast 31s per 48olbs.
