A contemporary of reoent date says : — Kansas prospers m spite of the reports ciroalated by the whiskey men that pro* hibitloa is ruining his Interests. It has recently been stated that Atohinson has bet n sadly emb&rassed for want of revenue from the raloonß that have been dosed, thnt gas and electrio lights have, been shut off, firemen dispensed with, and the police fo?oe reduced to a marshal and one man, because the license f aes have not been forthcoming Governor Mtrtin says that the only grain of truth m this report it, that tho polios force has been reduced because the c oslng of the saloons rendered is unnecessary to employ so many men upon It as m former times. Falsehoods have constantly been circulated to discredit prohibition, and to make it appear tha f saloons are promoters of the prosperity of a commanity. The Governor's testimony le, "So far as Kansas and all her cities and towns are coroerned, the reverse of this assertion is true.
