ST. MARK'S CHURCH, SOUTH RAKAIA
Oo Thursday evening a concert vn given ia the Town Hall, South Rakals, m aid of the above ohuroh funda. The Attendance was good, and the result a financial euccess. Mr 0. Blackburn opened with an overture, whloh was well reotivod. The chorus, '• Good Nowi from Home," wa^ very nicely sunsr by tho of mpaoy. The Rev Collins aang " The Midahipmvte." accompanied by Mrs Heoretau. •« Hail, Smiling Morn," wm the next item. Mr Stavenson then cod* tributed a comic song, accompanied by Mr Gatrs, and was loudly applauded and encored, Mrs Midgley contributed 11 O-matanoe " ; Mrs T^ye, •..'.* My Angel Boy " ; Mrs Broadbent, *» The Last Bobs 06 Summer," accompanied by Mrs Secret an. Mias Young gave " When Yon and I Were Young, Maggie," and wm deservedly enoored. The duet, " The Old Oaken Bucket," was very nicely rendered by Mr and Mrs Broad bent. Mr Gates contributed " An Awful Little Scrub," and brought down the house, as he also did with " The Wreck, of the Hesperus,' 1 and was enoored. Mr Kneen gave " The Song for Me " and " The Skipper's Flag," both of which were well sung and deierved the encore, " Far Away " was then given by the company. The Rev E. A. Scott gave a short description of hia visit to Naples, and at the same time offered some ! good advice, which was appreciated. Mm Secretan played the accompaniment* to many of the vocalists, and also added much to the evening's amusement by her selections on the piano. A hearty vote of thanks waa accorded to the lacies and gentlemen who had taken pirt m the oonoert, especially to those from Ashburton, who had oome bo far, aul added so muoh to the pleasure of the evening. '
