THE INTERNATIONAL YACHT RACE.
[reuteb's telegrams— copyright. ] Kew Yobk, September 27. The first of the races for the America Cup was sailed to-day over the Club s course, and was won by the American yacht Volunteer by eighteen minutes. During the race the wind dropped, and it was feared there was no chance of finishing within the prescribed time, but the breeze freshened subsequently and allowed the completion of the course. (X calved September 29, 1.10 p.m.) New Yobk, September 28. • The English yacht Thistle, during her race with the Volunteer, was seriously injured by an excursion craft on the run both out and home. The owner is dissatisfied with the result of the race and has expressed his suspicion that the bottom of the yacht had been "doctored."
