4» . . An interesting experiment j?aiM_aade -lately (says the •jjGtlobo ")-w_ri_ a novelty known as the asbestos paint, Tbe proprietors of tha invention claim that the particular article, which is to (be known as the asbeßtos paint, render, structures impervious to the effect of fire, and Messrs W. Adams and Co., of Bond Btreet, who are the agents m this city, invited a number of gentlemen, including several Press representatives, to witness a teat of the genuineness of the assertion. Two wooden structures resembling sentryboxes were erected on a vacant lot of land m Elizabeth street, and nailed side by Bide. One was simply of bare timber, whilst the other bore three coats of asbestos paint. A large pile of shavings thoroughly saturated with kerosene oil was placed In eaoh and ignited. In an instant the fire burst up around the little buildings, and In a very few momenta a most satisfactory reßult of the experiment was afforded. Tae plain wooden structure was completely demolished, but the other, which was painted, remained perfectly intact. The test vtrs fair, for both the houses were completely enveloped ia fUmea for come time. The bare wood home fell away from the other and bur__t to ashes. On inspection it was found that the fire had operated on the paint m Buch a manner aa to simply harden and blacker: it, but the wood ben. at, h was white and clean. The beneficial uses to which a paint containing these qualities may be put are obviously various, not only aa a means of saving life m cases of fire. The asbeatos paint waa used, to a large extent, on the famous Inventories m London, and received special recommendation ln honorable mention. It Is, of course, a water paint, make from the asbestoa rock, and ia mixed m every color
