New Plymouth, September 22 With reference to a proposal of the supporters of Messrs Dockrill and Smith that one should resign, the matter was left In the Mayor's hands, who took till this morning to conaider it. The Mayor this morning declined t) give a decision as htß found votes were clainrvgd by both parties, and said he had no time to go over the electorate to test lha feeling of the electors.
Nelson, September 22. A very carious caße haß arisen in connection with the election. Tho Corrupt Practices Aot disqualifies any person letting committee room to candidate. Mr Piper, one of the candidates, Is a mniber of the Young Men's Christian Association so too is his proposer. Prior to the nomination Mr Gibbs, another candidate, hired the Association's Hall as committee room. Tho Association not being a corporate body the question is raised whether the whole of the members are disqualified, if so Mr Piper's nomination is invalid. Legal opinion differ.
