1 THE NOMINATIONS. 3 ASHBURTON. j At noon to-day nominations of candidates fi.r the Asnburton seat were made l at the Courtboose. There was a large altem ate | the room being crowded. The Returning Officer, Mr J.R Colyer, cpaned the proceeding by reading the wrl'« He then called for nominations. 5 Mr D. Brick proposed Mr William Campbell Walker as a fit and proper pen on to represent the Ashburtcn Con- ► itltuenoy m Parliament. Mr F. T. Mayo seconded the nomination. = Mr J. Keir proposed Mr Charles William Parnell. " Mr James Dent seconded the nomination. The Returning Officer called for a show of band? with the following result:— Walker 91 n Purnoll 33 ? Messrs Keif and Dent, on behalf of 'Mr " Parnell, demanded a poll. This will be t held on Monday, the 26 h. i The proposers and seoonders of the 3 candidates delivered lengthy ad^r^sses, i but these we ore necssarily compelled to l hold over till to-morrow. 1 Both Mr Walker and Parnell delivered s speeches, and these we are also compelled -> to hold over. A vote of thanks to the Returning S Offijer concluded the proceedings. c . — —
: Napier, September 16. Nominations — J. D. Ormond and J. Ivess. Mr Ormond, speaking from the hustings, said he was an opponent of the Ministry, and the voice of the countrj at thli moment showed that already the Government was a thing of the past. Mr Ivess said be was supporting the Ministry, who had done bo much for Industrial olaaseß. Immense crowds surrounded the hustings, roofs, and balconies of houses opposite. The show of hands was 4 to 3 m favor of Ornond. A poll wat demanded. Wellington, September 16. For Wellington ? South and suburbs to-day, J, Ooonibes and O. B. Izird were nominated. The show of hands was In favor of Izard. A poll day waa demanded . gggHutt nominations to-day — H. S; Filzherbert and Thomas Mason. The show of hands waa m favor of Mason. A t poU was demanded, Motoeka, September 16. Nominations for Motueka electorate — Richmond, Hur at house and John Kerr. Palmerston North, September 16. Nominations for Manawatu — D H. Macarthur and L G. West. The latter had the show of hands. A poll was demanded. The proceedings were pretty lively. New Plymouth, September 16. New Plymouth district nominations today—Samuel Dockrell and Smith. Blenheim, September 16. Henry Dodaon, George Henderson, and Sutherland John Maoalister were nominated as candidates for Wairau seat. Show of hands : Dodson, 54 ; Maoalister, 40; Henderson, 28, A poll was demanded. Chbistohoroh, September 16. Nominations for Ohrietcharch North and South, and Avon took place to-day. At Christchurch North the show of hands was 45 for Sir Julius Yogel, and 15 for Roberts, who demanded a poll. About 150 were present. At Chriatchurch South, W. P. Percival, A. Ayers, H. Thompson, and E. George ■ were proposed. Iho show of hands was i largely m favor of Percival. At Avon the show of hands was 90 for '. E. G. Wright, and 76 for E. Blake. The , proceedings were very orderly. Waijute, September 16. Nominations for the Waimate district —Major W. J. Steward, 0. V. Clarke and J. Manchester. The show of hands was m favor of Major Steward. Some difference of opinion existed m regard as to whether the poll closed m the Waimate borough at seven, and the other places to be open till seven throughout the electoral district. Oamaru, September 16. The nomination for the Wa'taH electorate took place to-day at Pukeurl. Mr T. Dunoan, late member, and Mr John Reid, an Opposition oandldate, were nominated. There waa little Interest exhibited. The show of hands was 3 for D moon and 5 for Reid. A poll w*a j demanded on behalf cf Dunoan; Dunedin, September 16. Walhamo nominations— Backland, MoKeczle. The show of hands was m favor of the latter. Inveroargill, September 10 Nominations — J, Hatch, Wm, Mitchell, H. Jaggers, H. Feldwiok, and O. H. Tanner. A poll waa demanded by Mr Hatch. Mitchell only announced hinv aelf to-day. The nominations for Awarua were;— • J. W. Biin, G. Froggatt and J. G. Wa?d. . The show of hands was In favor of Ward. , A poll waj demanded.
